An arrest turns a family's night upside down. This guide walks you through what happens next, in the order it usually happens, so you know what to expect.
What happens after an arrest
First, booking. Your loved one is processed at the county jail. Photos, fingerprints and paperwork come first, and it can take a while.
Then, a magistrate. A judge or magistrate decides whether bail will be set, how much it will be and what conditions come with it. Texas law requires this within 48 hours of arrest.
Then, your call to us. Once bail is set, we go over the amount with you, explain the fee and the agreement in plain words, and answer every question before you sign. Some bonds also need collateral.
Then, release. We post the bond, and the jail releases your loved one after it finishes its own processing.
And after that, court. Every scheduled appearance has to be kept until the case is resolved.
A few terms you may hear
Surety bond means a bond company is guaranteeing the bail. Conditions are the court's rules while the case is open. Forfeiture is what can happen if court is missed.
Questions families ask us
I have never done this before. Where do I start?
Start with a phone call to 940-767-1208. Tell us the person's name, birthday and where they were taken, and we'll take it from there.
What does a bail bond company actually do?
We guarantee the full bail amount to the court so your loved one can come home while the case continues. You pay us a fee rather than the whole amount.
How will I know what it costs?
Bail bond fees in Texas are regulated and vary by bond. We explain your fee before you sign anything.
Could I be asked for collateral?
On some bonds, yes. We'll tell you ahead of time.
What if they miss court?
Missing court can lead the judge to forfeit the bond and issue a warrant. If you think a date was missed, call us right away.
How long until they are home?
After the bond is posted, the timing depends on the jail's release processing.
Can I pay online?
Yes, by card through Square. Call first so we can confirm the amount.
